Join us on March 18-19 for our very first case competition focused on finding clean solutions to real world energy issues! This year's theme: achieving net zero by tackling GHG emissions in industry supply chains. 🔗

Not only is this event an opportunity to gain valuable experience and insights into the energy industry, it is your chance to make a positive impact on the world by finding tangible solutions to reducing scope 3 emissions. Whether you're a seasoned energy expert or just starting to explore the field, this competition is a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow while challenging yourself and meeting like-minded peers!

This event will include workshops from industry professionals working at Hydro-Quebec ⚡, Metro 🛒 , Cascades ♻, and Radio-Canada 📡 and will conclude with an award ceremony and networking cocktail! 🥂

Inuit Energy Sovereignty : A Community-Based Approach

Join the McGill Energy Association on its first speaker event of the year!

This event will feature guest speaker Janice Grey, Director of Communications and Community Engagement at Tarquti Energy. Tarquti Energy has been in operation since 2020 initiating clean energy projects for the local community. Join us to learn about the challenges and opportunities this Inuit-led company faces for the control of decentralized energy.

Tarquti energy supports the implementation of renewable energy projects in Nunavik communities. They pride themselves in bringing solutions to the energy question that are tailored to the individual needs of each community. They are currently undergoing research projects in wind energy as well as the development of solar power projects in the region. Amongst their partners: engineering firm Hatch and Quebec's state-owned Hydro-Quebec.

Janice is native of the village of Aupaluk in Nunavik (Northern-Quebec). Her goal at Tarquti is "to inform, mobilize and engage Nunavik communities in the region’s energy transition" (MERN, QC). With a focus on community engagement, she was involved in cooperative movements in Nunavik and has held numerous management positions throughout her career. She graduated from post secondary education at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Inuit History and served as deputy major of Aupaluk from 2015 to 2022.

This event will be ONLINE at 1PM on Friday, December 12th. Event involves a lecture as well as a Q&A session.

This event was a great opportunity to connect with like-minded students, meet the teams, and learn more about what our clubs are planning for this upcoming year.

Reaching Sustainability Goals Through Nature Based Solutions

The second iteration of the annual McGill Sustainable Development Goals Week will take place from February 7th to 11th. Throughout the week, many panel discussions, workshops, and activities are organized to help students learn about, engage with, and take actions on the 17 SDGs. The 17 SDGs were unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 as a plan of action to create a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future.

In collaboration with McGill SDG Student Hub, McGill Energy Association, Sustainability in Engineering at McGill, SSMU Environment Committee, and Research and Sustainability Network, we are holding a panel discussion on the topic “Reaching Sustainability Goals Through Nature Based Solutions.” This topic is related to SDGs 7 (Clean & Affordable Energy), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life On Land). The format of the event will be a 10min introductory presentation by each speaker on their research, followed by a 40min panel discussion. Next, there will be a 30min Q&A session where all participants can interact with the speakers.

The SSMU Environment Committee, the McGill Energy Association, the Research and Sustainability Network, Sustainability in Engineering at McGill and the Desautels Sustainability Network Present the Greenhouse Gas Accounting Workshop!

Passionate about sustainability? Looking for a way to boost your career prospects? Our Greenhouse Gas Accounting Workshop is right for you!

GHG accounting is the process of creating GHG inventories for companies’ direct and indirect emissions. In this workshop, we’ll be teaching you the well-renowned GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. This workshop is suitable for students in all faculties, no prior knowledge required!

By the end of this three-hour workshop, you should feel equipped with the tools and knowledge to create your own GHG inventories following the GHGP Corporate Standard.

The workshop will take place virtually (via Zoom) on March 23rd, 2021 from 6-9 PM EST.

The GHG Accounting Workshop is eligible to be put on participants' co-curricular records at McGill. By attending, you will have this skill placed on your co-curricular record, a useful tool for demonstrating knowledge you've acquired outside of classes.

McGill Energy Association is collaborating with McMaster Energy Association and University of Waterloo Energy Network for an Interschool Research Symposium event for McMaster Energy Week!

Net Zero Action: From Challenge To Opportunity For Accelerated & Sustainable Value Creation

Some of the biggest energy industry’s in the world!

The McGill Energy Association is invited to tune in to MYTILINEOS's virtual summit with some of the largest energy players in the industry. This is an excellent opportunity for the McGill community to learn more about the future of energy sustainability.

MYTILINEOS is organizing an online summit focusing exclusively on the Environmental and Social Criteria, which together with the Governance Criteria constitute the ESG indicators for Sustainable Development, with the aim of highlighting important contemporary issues and setting new and higher goals for sustainability. The McGill Community can tune in on YouTube to hear some of the largest players in the energy industry!

"Net Zero Action: From challenge to opportunity for accelerated & sustainable value creation" will be held via livestream on February 18, 2021, at 9AM EST. This discussion involves invited European speakers, representatives of international business, academic community, and institutions, who will exchange views and address a range of critical issues on climate change that are more relevant and crucial today than ever before.

The opening of the Conference will take place with the discussion of the president and CEO of MYTILINEOS, Evangelos Mytilineos with Dana Perking, head of Bloomberg EMEA on the topic: "Net Zero Carbon Footprint by 2050".
