Meet the Team

  • Senior-Co-VP Events

    Ian is a U3 student studying urban studies and sociology. His desire to join the McGill Energy Association stemmed from his understanding of how environmental issues such as energy consumption are exacerbated in urban areas. He feels that since the majority of McGill students live in cities, it is essential that students are educated about how they contribute to the world around them. He appreciates the MEA tackling the global energy challenge through spreading knowledge as he feels it is the best way to create more permanent change. As Co-VP events, he hopes to create events that will engage students in an educational and meaningful way.

    Emma is a U3 student studying the Environment and Political Science. She is driven by the possibilities that clean energy creates to provide a better future for both humanity and the planet as a whole. The switch from fossil fuels to alternative energy forms is a daunting feat, particularly when analyzing economic payoffs. Emma believes education is the best tactic to show all generations that this shift does not have to be an impossible or scary task. She hopes to use her reach at MEA to foster widespread, inter-generational discourse through innovative events and opportunities for all.

    Cameron is a U3 student in Political Science Honours with a Minor in Psychology. He started with the MEA two years ago, was part of the executive team of the MEA's McGill Energy Journal (MEJ) last year, and is now the MEA’s President. As a Political Science student, he is interested in how governmental structures shape policy outcomes as it relates to a greener future and how individual community actors can help shape rhetorical narratives around energy transition. As a member of MEA Cameron has developed effective and friendly working relationships with other members and learned a lot about environmentalism, clean energy, and energy transition as both a social and technical phenomenon.

    Ava Fuchs is a second-year student studying Applied Mathematics and Earth System Science at McGill University. She is looking forward to her first year with MEA and learning from the perspectives of everyone on the team. Her enthusiasm for sustainable energy stems from an interest about the systems that drive our world and the transfers of energy that naturally take place. Her goal is to use her scientific background to promote energy literacy in the McGill community and beyond. Ava hopes that through MEA, she can inform those who are unsure about the effectiveness of clean energy that it is not only a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, but also more sophisticated and efficient in a variety of ways.

    Victoria is in her 2nd year at McGill University studying Economics, Mathematics and Social Entrepreneurship. She is french but grew up in London and in the Middle East. She is interested in the energy transition as a way to combat climate change.

  • Senior-VP Finance

    A third-year student at McGill University, Harvir is studying Sociology, Political Science and Social Entrepreneurship. She takes an interdisciplinary approach to her education and desires to understand society through many varying lenses. Her background in Commerce and passion for a sustainably functioning society is what attracted her to the McGill Energy Society. Harvir hopes to inspire young innovators and existing organizations to step into the realm of sustainable consumption habits.

    James is a U3 student studying mechanical engineering with a minor in software engineering. He is particularly interested in the ways that technology can be implemented to shift the world towards renewable energy sources, and how technology can be used to reduce energy consumption and costs. James is looking forward to learning more about different topics in the energy industry and helping raise awareness about the importance of acting immediately to combat climate change.

    Zeinab is a fourth-year student studying Economics, Philosophy, and Environment. She is particularly interested in learning how we can sustainably produce energy globally by taking a look at the economic, technical, and cultural factors in need of consideration. Through the MEA, she wants to learn more about how to make the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy possible and be a part of that shift while motivating her community to do the same.

    Fiona Miller is a U1 student completing a double major in Urban Studies, and Environment and Development. Fiona’s experience in environmental research is geared towards the creation and implementation of renewable energy, as well as sustainable development. Fiona is fascinated by environmental innovation, and her work is driven by an interest in global health, renewable energy, sustainable design, and supporting innovative entrepreneurship. Her career goals involve sustainable urban design and the relationship between energy, society and the environment. She hopes that her involvement in other clubs at McGill can help expand and diversify the MEA and use her experience in outreach to engage with various communities in the industry. Fiona is looking forward to pursuing her passions through the MEA, connecting with and involving students with similar interests while learning from professionals and experts in the field.

    Kenza is a U3 Desautels student majoring in Managing for Sustainability. They joined the MEA this year and are very passionate about sustainability. They believe that advocating for change in big corporations that have an important impact on the environment is fundamental in our fight against climate change. As a business student, they aspire to influence as much as possible for energy transition and greener alternatives in the related industries. Through the MEA, they hope to get a better understanding of the global energy situation to have the means to promote action against climate change.

  • Senio-VP Internal

    Oscar is a fourth-year student in Political Science and History with a minor in French. This is his first year on the MEA. Oscar is particularly interested in Western Canadian energy policy and how it relates to various political issues such as Indigenous reconciliation, environmental protection and economic development. He has worked for the past two summers for a non-profit in Vancouver which explores this very issue, and is currently helping to develop a new cleantech incubator and accelerator targeting companies which solve energy-related issues. He is excited to use his experiences and knowledge to shape and foster important conversations regarding the energy transition as both a societal and scientific challenge.

    Madeleine is a U2 student in Environment and is minoring in Economics. As VP External at the McGill Energy Association, she is hoping to form communicative, impactful relationships with other members, and promote conversations about sustainability and clean energy as climate change continues to worsen every year. Madeleine understands that the energy field is directly related to many environmental issues we face today, and is interested in the development and implementation of renewable energy in the modern world as we undergo the transition from fossil fuels.

    Aliya is a U1 student double majoring in Economics and Political Science. With climate change representing the most alarming challenge our societies have to face, she thinks it is now more important than ever to prepare for a transition. Through her fields of study, she is interested in how policy can fuel sustainable innovations by redirecting the financial incentives of industries. The understanding that a sustainable future wouldn't be achieved by technological advancements alone made her want to learn more about how she can contribute to the renewable energy transition. As VP External, she hopes to give more visibility to the sustainable energy sector to students from various study backgrounds by providing learning resources and career opportunities. She believes that through the joining of different perspectives we can gain more effective solutions and initiatives surrounding the green energy transition.

    Gabriel Audra is currently completing his U1 year in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program. His childhood in Alberta led to an early awareness of climate change and its intrinsic connection to the energy industry. Through his combined passion of climate activism and architecture, he wishes to pursue a future career in the field of sustainable architecture, which includes the study of green energy solutions in the construction industry. Through joining the MEA, he wishes to spread information on the green energy transition with fellow classmates, while developing a rich understanding of the energy industry and its correlations to the field of architecture.

  • VP Equity & Accessibility, Co-VP Communications

    Inès is a U1 Political Science and Urban Studies student at McGill University. She is interested in studying how geographical limitations could push our cities into becoming leaders of the green transition by magnifying the need for collaboration between different sectors. Inès has experience leading initiatives that promote environmental protection and climate justice. As Co-VP Communications of the MEA, she hopes to utilize her multidisciplinary background to bring together students from various fields of study and connect them to a range of opportunities relating to the renewable energy sector.

    Parth is a driven and passionate individual currently in their final year of a double major in Political Science and International Development. As an active member of the McGill Energy Association for over two years, Parth has seen first-hand the positive impact of community engagement in promoting sustainable practices and advancing the green energy transition. Their passion for sustainable development is rooted in a deep concern for the environment and a desire to help build a more sustainable future.

    Parth believes that the transition to green energy is one of the most important challenges facing our society today. With climate change rapidly accelerating, it is critical that we move away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power. The shift to green energy is not only necessary for mitigating the worst effects of climate change, but also presents a significant opportunity for creating new jobs and driving economic growth in a sustainable way.

    As a member of the McGill Energy Association, Parth is committed to advancing the green energy transition by encouraging dialogue with different stakeholders and promoting sustainable practices in the community. They are particularly interested in exploring innovative solutions to the challenges of community involvement, energy storage, and distribution.

    Looking forward, as Parth enters his last semester at McGill University, he hopes to leave behind a community that is more engaged and empowered to promote sustainable practices and advance the green energy transition.
