Inuit Energy Sovereignty : A Community-Based Approach

Join the McGill Energy Association on its first speaker event of the year!

This event will feature guest speaker Janice Grey, Director of Communications and Community Engagement at Tarquti Energy. Tarquti Energy has been in operation since 2020 initiating clean energy projects for the local community. Join us to learn about the challenges and opportunities this Inuit-led company faces for the control of decentralized energy.

Tarquti energy supports the implementation of renewable energy projects in Nunavik communities. They pride themselves in bringing solutions to the energy question that are tailored to the individual needs of each community. They are currently undergoing research projects in wind energy as well as the development of solar power projects in the region. Amongst their partners: engineering firm Hatch and Quebec's state-owned Hydro-Quebec.

Janice is native of the village of Aupaluk in Nunavik (Northern-Quebec). Her goal at Tarquti is "to inform, mobilize and engage Nunavik communities in the region’s energy transition" (MERN, QC). With a focus on community engagement, she was involved in cooperative movements in Nunavik and has held numerous management positions throughout her career. She graduated from post secondary education at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Inuit History and served as deputy major of Aupaluk from 2015 to 2022.

This event will be ONLINE at 1PM on Friday, December 12th. Event involves a lecture as well as a Q&A session.
